One more year, the Selwo Marina team joins the awareness of autism, whose world day is celebrated on April 2, with the aim of sensitizing our visitors and the rest of society about the difficulties faced by people with autism in their daily lives.
Still, a great part of the population does not know what autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is, so people with autism find barriers that prevent them from fully enjoying their fundamental rights, depending on each person and their specific needs. Under the premise that the difficulties of each person can be overcome with the commitment of everybody, raising awareness about autism is one of the main pillars of the Parques Reunidos Foundation, which joins the associative movement through all the leisure centres that are part of it, so that society knows, understands and does its bit against the barriers that people with ASD face every day.
Besides the activities we carry out during the whole year in collaboration with the Confederation Autism Spain and with local entities, during the days before and after the World Autism Awareness Day, we will promote the knowledge about the most used symbols of autism: the blue colour, symbolically attributed to autism; the puzzle piece, representing inclusion; and the infinite rainbow, representing diversity. We will also carry out informative mentions during our daily programme of activities, as well as special awareness-raising screenings.
The 2025 theme, "Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals", highlights the relationship between neurodiversity and global sustainability efforts, showing how inclusive policies and practices can drive positive change for autistic people around the world, as well as contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
