The Labidochromis caeruleus species, known as the Lemon Cichlid or Lemon Yellow Lab, was classified by Fryer in the year 1956. It receives its scientific name due to the sky-blue colour of the first specimens captured in Lake Malawi, some time later the commonly known yellow specimen was discovered.
In its natural state, the species is not territorial whatsoever, wandering “homeless” amongst the rocks. Neither are they very aggressive, in fact they are deemed to be the most pacific of M'bunas. Depending on the area it inhabits it may be the young of other fish, invertebrates, small crustaceans and insect larvae or snails.
