A palm tree with a slender, simple trunk and a height of 15-25m. This is generally covered with the remains of fallen leaves. It has fan-shaped leaves that have long, white threads when it is young, but disappear as it gets older. There is inflorescence at the base of the lower leaves. It bears very numerous, black-coloured, spherical fruit.
DISTRIBUTION: Native to Northwest Mexico and California.
