The Cardinal Tetra is a species of South American Actinopterygii Ostariophysi characin native to South America. It is a popular species in aquaria, but many of the specimens bought are captured in their wild state.
It has a very vivid colouring, similar to the Neon Tetra, but even brighter and with the colour red throughout the entire lower part of the fish.
The females are larger and more rounded in shape. It is an omnivore fish, feeding on worms, larvae, small crustaceans, algae, plankton and even meat.
